I just heard from a great friend of mine that he and his wife have officially booked their first trip to Africa. Half of their time on the continent will be dedicated to a series of business school-related activities in Johannesburg, the remainder at a safari camp called Arathusa.
This, I think, is my first travel article of 2007 and what better way to start. The New York Times has a neat feature entitled Where to Go in 2007 they launched a few days ago using the Google Maps interface to whisk day dreamers like me around the world in a click. While some destinations such as Iran and Mendoza are a tad off the beaten path, others in Mexico, Africa, and Europe have found their way onto some travelers’ must-see lists. The decision these days, however, is whether or not to take the road less traveled. Is it safe?

In a flash, the NYT Travel department published a handful of stories today focusing on everything from pastries to safaris. Which brings to me to Traveling Tuesday — a few links from around the world, so to speak. So kick back, turn on your imagination, and lift off.
- Why We Travel

- Safe or Not, It Depends on Who You Ask
- Real concern.
- Plush game viewing in Zambia
- I don’t like what they say about Zimbabwe, but this place looks pretty nice.
- A People’s Food Takes a Step Up in Cape Town
- Cape Malays in Cape Town. Yum.
