I’ve been waiting for news of a diesel-powered Subaru for years. When AutoblogGreen released information about a 2008 2.0 diesel Legacy in summer 2006, people were thrilled. But the ’08 model is only being sold in the European markets.

Today, however, The Times published a report on new low-sulfur diesel engines being released this year in the United States. These new cars, the first from Volkswagen, are said to meet and exceed the strict auto and emissions standards in California and New York, as well as the other 48 states. To top it all off, Subaru engineers are set to release a diesel-powered Outback wagon in 2010. Happiness is.
