The NY Times:
After months of resisting intense pressure from leaders across southern Africa, Zimbabwe’s opposition leader, Morgan Tsvangirai, announced Friday that he would do as they have insisted and join a power-sharing government as prime minister with his longtime nemesis, President Robert Mugabe.
…
The challenges are monumental, and the distrust of Mr. Mugabe is so deep that it is uncertain whether the United States and European nations will lift sanctions and infuse substantial new aid for the reconstruction of Zimbabwe until they have solid evidence that he will agree to sweeping changes in the country’s disastrous economic policies, the restoration of the rule of law and democracy.

The Daily Camera:
ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK, Colo. (AP) — Sharpshooters will start killing elk in the next few weeks to thin the herd in Rocky Mountain National Park.
The reduction is the result of a decade of research and development of a management plan to cut the number of elk in the park about 70 miles northwest of Denver. Park officials want to thin the herd because overgrazing by elk has nearly wiped out aspens and willows, prime habitat for beavers and birds.
There are about 600 to 800 elk in the park and 1,000 to 1,300 elk in and around the neighboring town of Estes Park.
Two teams of sharpshooters will soon begin culling up to 100 cow elk in the park.
Environmentalists have filed a lawsuit saying that releasing wolves to prey on elk is a better solution.Â

Wired Blog: Obama Rolls In An Armored Cadillac Stagecoach:
Limo One is believed to weigh between seven and eight tons, and spy shots suggest it rides on a GM medium-duty truck chassis propelled by a diesel engine. The body is sheathed in military-grade armor as much as 8 inches thick on the doors (each of which weighs as much as the cabin door on a Boeing 747, Motor Authority says).Â
